"Apple's Vision Pro: Unveiling the Future of Spatial Computing with High-End Specs and Surprising Inclusions"
Apple has recently opened pre-orders for its groundbreaking Vision Pro headset, signaling a significant leap into the realm of spatial computing. The price tags for this cutting-edge device stand at $3,499 for 256GB, $3,699 for 512GB, or $3,899 for 1TB, with the option for one-year financing through Apple Card monthly installments.
In tandem with the pre-order launch, more details have surfaced about the headset, including the optional AppleCare+ priced at $499. This package offers unlimited repairs for accidental damage protection, an "Express Replacement Service," and 24/7 priority access to Apple experts. Before placing a pre-order, users need to measure the light seal and headband, a process facilitated by an iPhone or iPad with Face ID. Additionally, two types of Zeiss optical inserts are available for an extra cost: $99 for Readers inserts and $149 for Prescription inserts.
To familiarize potential users with this novel addition to Apple's product lineup, the company has released a comprehensive "guided tour" video that runs close to 10 minutes. The package contents include the headset itself, a dual loop band, a cover, the battery, a light seal cushion, a polishing cloth, a USB-C charging cable, and somewhat surprisingly, an actual charger.

Delving into the technical specifications, the Vision Pro is powered by the M2 chip, featuring an 8-core CPU with 4 performance cores and 4 efficiency cores, a 10-core GPU, a 16-core Neural Engine, and 16GB of unified memory. The unique R1 chip ensures a 12ms photon-to-photon latency with 256GB/s memory bandwidth.
The display boasts support for 90Hz, 96Hz, and 100Hz refresh rates, accommodating 24fps and 30fps video playback. Micro OLED panels cover 92% of the DCI-P3 color space, offering a 7.5-micron pixel pitch and a total of 23 million pixels. Users can utilize AirPlay to mirror their view in the Vision Pro on any AirPlay-enabled device.
The Vision Pro is equipped with two high-resolution main cameras, six world-facing tracking cameras, four eye-tracking cameras, a LiDAR scanner, four inertial measurement units, a flicker sensor, and an ambient light sensor. It also features iris-based biometrics, six microphones, Spatial Audio, Wi-Fi 6, and Bluetooth 5.3.
However, the headset's weight has raised eyebrows, confirming it to be well over 1 pound. Some users have reported discomfort after just 20 minutes of use. The battery life is estimated at 2 hours of general use and 2.5 hours of video watching, with the option to use the headset while charging. The weight variation, ranging from 600 to 650g, is attributed to different light seal and headband configurations. The separate battery weighs 353g.
