"Critical Fixes and Features: Samsung's Latest Security Patch Makes Waves on Flagship Devices"
Samsung has initiated the rollout of the January 2024 security patch for its flagship phones, with users in Europe already detecting the update. Galaxy S23 users can anticipate firmware version S91xBXXS3BWL3, while S22 and S21 devices are set to receive versions S90xBXXS7DWL3 and G99xBXXS9FWL9, respectively. The update, approximately 400MB in size, appears substantial in its content.
The patch addresses over 70 security issues, including one critical vulnerability and 67 labeled as "High" priority by Samsung. Noteworthy fixes involve resolving a vulnerability in the Bluetooth pairing process, preventing attackers from establishing pairing without user interaction. Another bug fix prevents Samsung DeX users in multi-user environments from accessing another user's notifications.
While the official patch notes provide insight, it remains uncertain whether the update incorporates the screen burn-in protection promised by Samsung for January.
The January security patch has surfaced on flagship Galaxy devices in Europe and is expected to reach the US soon. In addition to the mentioned device families, the patch is slated for the Galaxy Z Fold5, Z Flip5, Z Fold4, Z Flip4, A54, and Note20 in this update wave, excluding FE edition devices for now.
