"Google Announces Layoffs Affecting Assistant and Hardware Teams Amidst Strategic Shift"

Google recently made the decision to lay off "a few hundred" employees, impacting various divisions such as the Assistant team and the Hardware team responsible for Pixel phones, Nest home devices, and Fitbit wearables.

 Employees received messages notifying them of the elimination of their positions. Google confirmed the cuts, explaining that the company is directing its resources toward its "biggest priorities and significant opportunities ahead."In response to the layoffs, the Alphabet Workers Union, representing over 1,400 workers at Google's parent company, expressed dissatisfaction, deeming the job cuts unnecessary. 

The union criticized Google's ability to generate substantial profits each quarter while simultaneously letting go of employees, emphasizing the need for a different approach to workforce management.
