"Samsung's Galaxy S21 Series Unleashes Android 14: A Deep Dive into One UI 6.0's Exciting Features and US Rollout"
Samsung Delivers Android 14 Update to Factory-Unlocked Galaxy S21 Series in the US
Samsung initiated the Android 14 rollout for the Galaxy S21 series two months ago, initially reaching the global variant. Subsequently, carrier-locked models in the US received the update, and now, factory-unlocked versions in the US are also getting the Android 14 (One UI 6.0) update.
The update, identified by firmware version G99xU1OYM9FWL3, is approximately 2GB in size. Notably, it incorporates the December 2023 security patch instead of the January 2024 patch, addressing over 65 security flaws. The rollout spans across major US carriers, including AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon, and more.
Users with factory-unlocked Galaxy S21 devices can check for the update by navigating to the Settings app, selecting Software update, and tapping Download and install. Alternatively, a clean install is possible by downloading the appropriate firmware from the database and manually flashing it.
Android 14 (One UI 6.0) Features for Galaxy S21
The One UI 6.0 update introduces various enhancements, including a redesigned Quick Panel layout, a new font, updated emoji design language, and a media player widget on the lock screen and notifications area. Additionally, users gain more font/placement options for the lock screen clock widget.
Notable improvements extend to stock apps within One UI 6.0. The Gallery app, for instance, offers Quick Edit suggestions, and a new two-hand gesture facilitates dragging and dropping multiple images and videos between folders. The Photo Editor boasts enhanced controls, new text and background styles, and advanced editing options.
Renamed as Samsung Studio, the Video Editor now supports a timeline layout and drafts. The Video Player features improved controls and additional playback speed options. Two new widgets, Custom Camera and Weather Insights, enrich the user experience. The Camera app itself adopts a more user-friendly layout, while the Weather app displays more detailed weather condition information.
Beyond multimedia, One UI 6.0 brings changes to apps like Samsung Health, Calendar, Samsung Internet, and more. Samsung Pass in the Samsung Wallet app supports passkeys, and the Airplane Mode becomes smarter, remembering Bluetooth and Wi-Fi preferences.
As Samsung advances its Android 14 rollout, users can anticipate further updates, with the introduction of One UI 6.1 alongside the Galaxy S24 series. The evolving software landscape promises enhanced AI features, shaping the future Samsung smartphone experience.
